The year 2015 was indeed a remarkable one in the Nigeria movie industry, Nollywood. While others could not join the train of trend setters, others sure had lovely experience to talk on. From one international premiere to another, down to award-winning movies, giving a clear cut projection that 2016 is filled with lots of bumper packages.
In no particular order, here are some of
the few Nollywood stars fans will love to see more body of work from;
meanwhile all other acts have been fantastic also worthy of mention.
Kunle Afolayan
Kunle Afolayan is an actor and also a
director. He is the son of the famous thespian, Ade Love. He has made
several extremely popular titles including The Figurine (Araromire)
which was in the Yoruba and English languages. The Figurine won five
major awards in the African film academy and experienced tremendous
success in the Nigeria movie theaters. October First and also Phone Swap
were other popular flicks of Afolayan. In 2015, Kunle Afolayan was
arguably the Nollywood star with the highest number of endorsement
deals. Much therefore is expected from him in 2016 with The CEO starting
off the New Year.
Mercy Aigbe-Gentry
She is one of the most sought-after
actress, director and businesswoman. Mercy was indeed one of the busiest
acts in 2015 storming one location to another. With several movies to
her credit and recently released movie ‘Victim’ indicates that the
actress still has a lot to offer in 2016. It is important to note that
her latest movie earned her a nomination at the 2015 Africa Magic
Viewer’s Choice Awards. Starting off the year with the award of fashion
entrepreneur for the year.
Omoni Oboli
Omoni Oboli is a Nigerian actress and
producer. In 2010, she won the award for Best Actress, Narrative Feature
at the Los Angeles Movie Awards, and the award for Best Actress at the
Harlem International Film Festival. She was nominated for the Best
Actress in a Leading Role award at the 2011 Africa Movie Academy Awards.
Omoni won Big Screen Actress of the Year award at the 2014 ELOY Awards,
for her movie, Being Mrs. Elliot. In 2015 she was named Nollywood
personality of the year and no Nigerian actress is having more box
office figure than her. Watch out for her movies in 2016.
Femi Adebayo
Femi Adebayo is a Nigerian lawyer, film
actor, director and a producer. He won the City People Entertainment
award for the best movie producer (Yoruba) of the year 2015. He has been
a huge success in the Yoruba movie industry. He has a long list of
movies to his credit which includes the much anticipated Sonto Alapata,
Wura Ati Fadaka, Ma Wobadan and Buga (a very funny one) just to mention a
few. Femi is the MD/CEO of J-15 Media Network Nigeria. He has a
Master’s degree in Law. More of these are expected from him in 2016.
Fathia Williams
Fathia Williams formerly known as Fathia
Balogun is a Nigerian actress, film-maker, producer and director. She
has starred, produced and directed several Nigerian films over the years
and she has also bagged several awards including the Best Indigenous
Language, Yoruba award for the work done in the film, Iya Alalake, at
the 2015 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCA. She is a huge
success to the Yoruba movie industry and we expect to see more of her in
2016.
Obi Emelonye
Obi Emenlonye is a Nigerian film director
and a movie writer. He is known for directing award winning movies like
Last flight to Abuja, The mirror boy, Onye Ozi and Thy will be done. He
has also marked himself out as one of United Kingdom’s contemporary
directors with his latest movie where he married Hollywood with
Nollywood in Oxford Garden movie.
